Many FMCG brands have been issued notices by Maharashtra Pollution control board directing them to create a reserve fund-Rs.25,000 per lakh multi layer laminated packs – in an escrow account under the vigilance of MPCB to ensure companies create their respective buyback chains.

Local govt bodies and officials can penalise consumers or retailers littering places with used packets.Plastic packaging is blamed for blocking drains and nullahs during the monsoon and leading to flooding. The packaging also damages the fertility of the soil and the quality of the water. Manufacturers are expected to print their name, type of plastic and buyback price on all plastic packaging used for their products.
