DuPont alkylation technology awarded contract by Shenghong Petrochemical

Excerpt: DuPont Clean Technologies has been awarded contracts to supply Shenghong Petrochemical Group Co. with a STRATCO® alkylation technology licence, engineering, and proprietary equipment.

DuPont Clean Technologies has been awarded contracts to supply Shenghong Petrochemical Group Co. with a STRATCO® alkylation technology licence, engineering, and proprietary equipment. Shenghong is undertaking a project to design and construct a new alkylation unit as part of its grassroots petrochemical and refining facility with crude oil capacity of 16 million tpy located in Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province, China. The STRATCO alkylation unit at the Shenghong Petrochemical and Refining facility will be designed to produce 440 000 tpy of alkylate product.

The DuPont alkylation unit will enable the Shenghong Petrochemical and Refining facility to generate low-sulfur, high-octane, low-RVP alkylate, with zero olefins, that meets the criteria of upcoming China VI standards which will take effect prior to the start-up of the Shenghong facility in 2021.

The alkylation technology is used in over 100 units licensed worldwide with more than 33.3 million tpy of installed capacity. It is a sulfuric acid catalysed process that converts low-value olefins into high-value alkylate, a key desirable component for clean fuel.

The process of making H-Acid generates a lot of effluent. There should be checks to see that it is being made by zero discharge manufacturing units or by units whose pollution control measures are in good shape. The increased price realisations of the product should increase compliance.
